I’ve got three guilty pleasures (ok, I have more than three but these are the ones that immediately spring to mind.)
Pretty Stationery. Handbags. And Books.
My TBR pile is currently doing a great impersonation of Mount Snowdon – and I love it!
I have so many lovely books to read, that I am struggling to close the door on my bedside cabinet. I have everything in there from Jenny Colgan, to Jodi Picoult, Wilbur Smith and Fiona Harper.
I have read some writers say they deliberately don’t read books when they are writing their own, as they think they may become influenced by another author’s work. I don’t think I could do that, for the simple reason it provides me with a relaxing indulgence after a hard day toiling over my WIP.
It seems to help me refocus and see where I’m going with my novel.
Every time I am out, I am pulled with a magnetic force to the bookshelves in shops, where rows upon rows of glossy, exciting books beckon me to pick them up and delve inside.
If I’m not reading, I don’t feel like me. I’m frightened the world will collapse and we’ll be plunged into darkness – ok, a slight exaggeration but my love of reading is so strong, that if I’m not reading, I don’t feel like I should be writing!
At the moment, I’m reading Katie Fforde’s “The Perfect Match” and am loving it. What I will read next from my extensive pile, I’m not too sure. But what I do know is that without my TBR pile flirting with me every time I try to open my cupboard door, life would seem a lot less magical.
The power of books is a very strong one and should be celebrated for generations to come.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m just off to try and close my bedside cupboard door….!
I trained as a journalist but writing romance has always been a dream of mine. When I’ve not got my head in a book or drafting one, I write verses and captions for greetings card companies. Writing at home seems to be incredibly difficult for me – I usually require tea, music and noise!
My second romcom, "Hero or Zero" is out now. “Rock My World” was my debut romcom. I'm currently writing my third.
I’m married, have two sons and live in Scotland.
